Capnography may not be available during laryngoscopy and rigid bronchoscopy owing to the equipment used and the fact that patients are often not (or intermittently) intubated. Thus it is imperative to visually inspect for chest rise and auscultate for breath sounds in order to ensure that ventilation is adequate.
