In pediatric patients, spirometry can be used to measure which of the following lung functions:

a) Tidal volume

b) Residual volume

c) Total lung capacity

d) Forced vital capacity

e) Expiratory reserve volume

Spirometry is a lung function test often used to evaluate children with asthma and can provide the anesthesiologist with information regarding forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume. It cannot be used to determine tidal volume, residual volume, total lung capacity or expiratory reserve volume which requires more complete pulmonary function testing.
