The nerve also provides motor innervation to the quadriceps muscle (leading to patellar twitch with stimulation) as well as the Pectineus and Sartorius muscles. The femoral artery is used as a landmark for placing the femoral nerve block below the inguinal ligament. Here the femoral nerve lies lateral to the femoral artery and vein.
