Answer

Answer d. Glucocorticoids play an important role in surfactant production in fetal lungs; they may also be administered exogenously to women in preterm labor to promote surfactant release. Glucocorticoids are produced in the zona fasiculata, decrease glucose utilization and increase gluconeogenesis (with a net effect of increased blood glucose), and decrease ACTH and CRH production via negative feedback.
