Answer

Answer c. Any child with cardiac disease can present with physiological consequences of the structural abnormality, and signs and symptoms consistent with cyanosis, pulmonary hypertension, arrhythmias and cardiac failure will significantly increase the perioperative risk to the patient. The more decompensated the physiological consequence the higher the risk of perioperative morbidity and mortality. Anemia would be an unlikely finding; most patients have either normal or elevated hemoglobin values.
