The submucosa consists of connective tissue that provides support and flexibility to the GI tract. The Muscularis Externa consist of Auerbach’s plexus and smooth muscle that aids in peristalsis. The serosa is the outermost layer of the GI tract and is made up of mostly connective tissue.
