The normal maintenance fluid requirement in a 2-day old neonate is:
a) 60 mL/kg/24 hr
b) 80 mL/kg/24 hr

A 1-day old neonate requires 60 mL/kg/24 hr of maintenance fluids. This increases to 80 mL/kg/24 hr for the 2-day old. During days 1-4, the requirements increase by 20 mL/kg/24 hr.
