a) Diagnostic evaluation for severe, disseminated intravascular coagulation
b) Evaluation of neutropenia
c) Staging of lymphoma
d) Diagnostic evaluation for mediastinal mass
e) Unexplained splenomegaly

Answer a. The bone marrow biopsy is a relatively minor surgical procedure that is well tolerated with few contraindications. The presence of a severe bleeding diathesis is one of the few contraindications.
