Answer

Answer e. ECMO may be used for both primary cardiac and primary respiratory failure, as well as for circulatory collapse from severe sepsis. In situations where emergent dialysis is required in neonates (e.g., for hyperammonemia due to metabolic anomaly) and hemodialysis is not possible due to patient size or hemodynamic instability, ECMO has been used with in-line continuous renal replacement therapy.
