They may be associated with other congenital anomalies. Large defects present with hypothermia, dehydration and risk of infection. They should be promptly corrected for improved outcome. Management may be by primary closure, staged closure, use of silo or desiccating agents. Abdominal compartment syndrome may occur with primary closure of a large defect.
